Caherelly National School is a 7 teacher (5 mainstream teachers and 2 full-time Additional Educational Needs teachers, one part-time Additional Educational Needs Teacher & one part-time EAL teacher) school. We are situated in a rural setting in East Limerick, a short distance from Limerick city and 4 miles from Ballyneety village on the main Limerick/Kilmallock Road (R512).
Established in 1955 as a two teacher school we are now in the happy position of having newly renovated classrooms, a spacious General Purpose Hall, a resource room and offices. We have a newly revamped playground and we enjoy free access to green fields adjoining school which we avail of weather permitting.
This year we are in the fortunate position of opening our first Autism class in the school. We are very excited about this development as it has been a few years in the planning. Our school is inclusive and welcoming with a warm and caring atmosphere. There is a strong sense of belonging and community throughout the school. We take part in many initiatives which cater for the strengths of all of our pupils. We enjoy a very good relationship with parents, local preschools, primary schools and secondary schools, and local clubs and associations.
Inspectorate
A school inspection entitled SSPS (Supporting the Safe Provision of Schooling) took place on December 14th 2021. This inspection involves engagement with Principal, Lead Worker Representative and selected staff members. It involves the observation of physical distancing measures, Covid signage, sanitising units and isolation area. A review of our Covid-19 Policy statement, risk assessment and school arrangements for signing in and out. This inspection also included a review of Child Protection Checks (Level 1).
We were commended our attention to detail on all areas. The report is available for viewing here.
