Our school was accepted to take part in the 2023 Arts-in-Education BLAST Residency Programme. The aim of this scheme is to give students, in schools all over the country, the opportunity to work with a professional artist on unique projects to be planned and developed between the artist, the teacher and the school under the coordination of education centres. The artist, Yvonne Edmonds, worked with our pupils taking inspiration from our surroundings and rich local history and worked on batik and weaving. The workshops began on the 25th of January & ran until March 24th for 3rd to 6th Class. The whole experience has been very positive on many levels. It has given our pupils the chance to work with an artist with a medium they wouldn’t ordinarily have exposure to. The finished pieces are so varied and colourful, each with its own individual flavour. We are having an open night in our school where our pupils will exhibit their work and invite their parents and families. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to have their art displayed. Many thanks to Yvonne for all her work with our pupils and teachers.
